my story
I am a Postpartum RN and I love my career. I especially love Reproductive and Maternal Health, but it was my personal journey into motherhood that turned that love into a true passion.
My pregnancy was complicated by preterm labor at 25 weeks. I was able to keep him growing in my belly for seven more weeks. Although every day of those seven weeks was a gift, they were long and emotionally exhausting. Our son Nico was born at 32 weeks gestation and then spent three weeks in the NICU. Once he came home, we began to bond in a way that we had not yet been able to. My journey was far from what I had expected and hoped for. Although I was familiar with all of these complications from caring for patients as their nurse, it was not the same to experience it myself. I found myself struggling with Postpartum Depression and Anxiety.
With the help of therapy and after lots of personal growth, I am ready to follow my new found passion. I am ready to share my story more in depth. I am ready to speak with others to offer support. I am ready to help build a sense of community for anyone going through an unexpected hurdle on the road to parenthood.
I am here to emphasize this most underappreciated and undervalued fact of becoming a parent:
